Leighton Clark McLendon
January 11, 1915 - January 23, 2008
Leighton Clark McLendon, 93, died January 23, 2008 at Marsh View Senior Living. He was born in Swainsboro, Georgia, son of the late, James Horace McLendon and Mary Geise McLendon. He lived in Savannah most of his life and was a graduate of Savannah High School. Mr. McLendon retired in 1980 as an electrician from Stone Container Corporation after 32 years of service. He was a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church where he was past president of the Wesley Fellowship Class, Communion Usher and was involved in many other activities at the church. He was past president and member of the Greater Savannah Athletic Hall of Fame where he was also a member of the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of I.B.E.W. No. 508, Old Timers Softball Association, Stone Container Veterans Association and past member of Savannah Golf Club and the St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee. His wife, Ouida Lawson McLendon, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Leighton Clark McLendon, Jr. and Guerry McLendon of Aiken, SC; daughter and son-in-law, Patty M. and Patrick Hahn of Savannah; four grandchildren, Leighton Clark McLendon, III and his wife, Allison of Columbia, SC; David Vincent McLendon and his wife, Tracy of New Orleans, LA; Julie Michelle Hahn of Savannah; Kelly Elizabeth Hahn of Savannah; two great grandchildren, Leighton Clark McLendon, IV of Columbia, SC; Lawson Preuitt McLendon of Columbia, SC; special devoted friend and companion, Mary Mock of Savannah and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2008 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral: 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church with The Rev. M. Creede Hinshaw, officiating, The Rev. Karen A. Kilhefner and The Rev. Patrick O'Brien.
Pallbearers will be Leighton Clark McLendon, III, David Vincent McLendon, Hoyt Powell, Jimmy Wilson, Mark Boyles and Keith Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be the Wesley Fellowship Class.
Burial: Hillcrest Abbey Memorial Park.
